Downtown drivers will need to find an alternate route

Construction in the downtown core is expected to be finished by Monday night. Birch, Balsam, and Cedar, are all closed from Third to Fifth for repaving. As for Algonquin and the Connecting Link, some work has been done but Mayor Steve Black says it is going to take time for the entire road to be fixed.

He says the Connecting Link is still the number one priority at council, but it isn’t as simple as tearing up the road and repaving it. He says residents will have to be patient because the project is still in the beginning stages.

The preliminary study has been finished, and now the road is in the detailed design study phase. Black says they are going to push for more funding from the province at an Association of Municipalities Ontario meeting this week.

The areas in front of the Beer Store and Western Auto Sales are being fixed-up now.
