News New gold discovery is great news for Timmins SHARE ON: Taylor Ablett, staff Thursday, Aug. 13th, 2015 Timmins West has the potential to be a major gold mining center. Lakeshore Gold has found multiple deposits in their 144 exploration area, which is West of the Mattagami River. City Councillor Mike Doody brought up the new discovery at Monday night’s meeting, saying this is only good news for Timmins. He calls the success exciting, because it identifies areas for potential mining in the future. Doody says this is the second discovery at 144 in less than a year. That fact supports the belief that there are multiple gold deposits in the trend, that together could establish Timmins West as major gold mining center. Doody says this is a huge success story for a local man, Tony Makuch who is the CAO of the company. He spearheaded the mining project in the West end of town.
