Connecting link update: Algonquin Blvd. expected to reopen within three weeks

CORRECTION: The entire stretch of Algonquin Blvd. will reopen in the next three weeks.  The portion between Algonquin Blvd. and Wilcox St. hasn’t been touched yet, and will be rolled in to next year’s work to rebuild it between Mountjoy and Cedar Sts.

Timmins City Hall is still aiming to have construction on Algonquin Blvd. wrapped up by the end of the month, and reopened between Thériault Blvd. and Mountjoy St.

That’s the update from Chief Administrative Officer Dave Landers.

“As it stands right now,” he says, “we don’t have an official completion date but we’re expecting about another three weeks of work.”

The short stretch between Wilcox and Mountjoy will be completed in the spring, along with the reconstruction of Algonquin up to Cedar St.

Landers adds that all that remains of this year’s connecting link reconstruction is wiring street lights and traffic signals.

“Algonquin itself is fully paved, and so the crews right now are working on a bit of the side street paving and sidewalk work.”

ANOTHER CLOSURE TO CONTEND WITH

Meanwhile, here’s another little challenge thrown at you, as you try to navigate from Mountjoy St. to the other side of the river.

Wilson Ave. is closed from its far western end – Mattagami Blvd. — to Fogg St. until the end of the work day Tuesday . That’s to allow Enbridge to complete a new natural gas installation.
