No snow cross races in Timmins this winter

There will be no Timmins Pro Snow Cross Challenge at Hollinger Park this coming March.

Coordinator Angela Vacchino says it was a struggle for last year’s event, getting equipment and everyone involved coming together.

“So we let it go this year, and Sudbury is going to host the event,” she outlines, “and sometimes we need that to happen in order to see how important the impact of this event has on the community and maybe we’ll come back in the future.”

Among the issues was the overabundance of snow last winter, and finding enough parking for spectators.

“Coming from a snow cross background,” Vacchino observes, “I knew a lot of the do’s and the don’ts in how to have a great event and everybody loved to come here., especially the racers because it was one of the biggest races to have locals out cheering everybody on.”

Over six years, the races attracted local competitors, along with some from across Canada, the U.S. and even Europe. They were racing for points towards a berth in the Canadian finals.
