When you buy a poppy this year, you might not even need cash to pay for it

Royal Canadian Legion Branch 88 launches its annual poppy campaign this Friday, until Remembrance Day.

You’ll see Legion reps with poppy boxes all around the city.  Sergeant at Arms and Remembrance Day parade commander Andrea Villeneuve says you can pay whatever you want or can.

“All the funds that we raise for the poppy campaign go towards our veterans – our local veterans – so the money that we do raise locally is staying locally,” she states.

You might not even need cash.

“A couple of locations throughout the week, during the day mostly, we’ll have a tip-tap machine, so people could use their cards,” says Villeneuve. “We’re trying it out this year to see how it goes, and if it works out, maybe we’ll be able to get more for next year.”

The annual Remembrance Day ceremony is at the cenotaph at Hollinger Park at 11:00am on November 11th. The parade to and from there begins at 10:50 at the armoury.
