UPDATE AT 2:00pm: The siding and foam insulation of a Pine St. S. apartment building were damaged by a mid-morning fire.
Deputy fire chief Berny Stansa says the actual fire was in a lot with only a shed on it, right next to he four-apartment building, where only one person was home. Stansa says discarded needles and a burned mattress were found there.
There was a lot of smoke this morning, but the BIA assures us that downtown was not burning down.
Flames were contained to one building at Pine Street and Kirby Avenue, next to the laundromat. Firefighters spent part of the morning working to put it out.
We’ll have more details later.
