Social media users help TPS get their man

The stars aligned Wednesday for criminal investigators at Timmins Police, and with public help, they got their man.

They posted security camera photos from The Home Depot on social media.  The photos depicted a man leaving the store on Monday afternoon, with a lumber cart and about $1,000.00 in merchandise.

Police communications coordinator Marc Depatie says it didn’t take long: “It took no more than 20 minutes from the time it was posted, to the radio room telling me ‘We’re getting too many calls.’ The subject is positively identified. We have an address, we have a name.”

Depatie thanks the tipsters to both Crime Stoppers and TPS, and mentions that security cameras are always a good investment.

“And with COVID, we did have those situations where face masks made our job all that much more difficult, despite the fact that there’s closed circuit television equipment in nearly all retail outlets in Timmins.”
