Book boxes to appear in, around Schumacher

Ten new book boxes will soon be popping up in Schumacher, Gold Centre and Carium neighbourhoods. The take-a-book, leave-a-book facilities are a celebration of Schumacher’s 100th  anniversary.

Lloyd Salamone led the project for the Schumacher Arts, Culture and Heritage Association (SACHA).  He approached the F.W. Schumacher Foundation for financial help.

“And they basically said ‘we love the idea, let us know what you need.’ So at some point I guess we will invoice the Foundation for the expenses associated with doing this,” he remarks.

The boxes are built by the girls’ construction class at TH&VS. Two of them were unveiled Wednesday at the DSB-1 office in Schumacher.

The book box project, Salamone says, follows one last year, to mark SACHA’s tenth anniversary.

“For 2021, we worked with the Schumacher Lions Club to install the Schumacher International Peace Park, where there’s 20 peace poles from various Indigenous and ethic communities.”
