Display your house numbers clearly, and help first responders

When emergency responders are called to a house, it can be hard for them to find, which can waste valuable time. Now the Timmins Police is launching an initiative to change that. The House Numbering campaign will try and get all homes have their address clearly displayed.

Communications Coordinator for the police, Kate Cantin, says it’s an educational campaign. Houses that don’t have proper numbering will be getting a pamphlet on their doors. It lays out how and where the numbers should be displayed, as well as what to do if the main building can’t be seen from the road.

Cantin says it’s a simple but important message: if people need help from emergency services, they need to know how to find them.

The Youth Policing team will be handing out the pamphlets around town. Cantin says the by-laws are slightly different for rural areas, but this campaign is focusing on the urban parts of town.
