Cyclist hit by vehicle at Algonquin and Mountjoy

A cyclist suffered what police call “life-altering injuries” in a collision with a passenger vehicle early this morning, in the intersection of Algonquin Boulevard and Mountjoy Street.

Timmins Police communications coordinator Marc Depatie says it happened shortly after 4:00am, forcing closure of the intersection until about 9:00am while evidence was collected.

“We are as always seeking out the assistance of the public in terms of witnesses who may have seen the collision take place,” he says, “or any driving behaviour that might be of interest to the police leading up to the collision.”

“We do have cameras in the area that are rendering assistance to our investigators,” Depatie continues, “but as always, a person who saw something firsthand gives a better appraisal on occasion.”

That would be one of the lightest traffic periods, making it easier for anyone in the area to notice those things.
