An exhibit at the Timmins Museum until October 12th is all about gems.
Assistant curator Kaitlyn Dubeau says it’s from the mines and minerals museum in Thetford Mines, Québec.
“It’s a very interactive exhibition on gem stones,” she says, “and it’s actually a bit of a scientific investigation into discovering how to distinguish between a real gem stone and a fake.”
The exhibit is in French with English translation. Dubeau says it’s for all ages.
“Of course, there’s a lot of scientific information, so if you’re into rocks and geology and things like that, there’s definitely a lot in there for you, but also it’s really great for kids.”
The museum is open every day and there’s never an admission charge.
