Free end of summer barbecue offered by Indigenous Organizations Committee

As much as we hate to admit it, summer is almost over — unofficially, at least.

To celebrate it rather than complain about it, the Timmins Indigenous Organizations Committee is holding an end of summer barbecue this coming Wednesday.

Brenda Beaven is on the committee, as the Indigenous community liaison for Timmins Police.

“Everything is free,” she says of the barbecue. “There’s going to be games for the kids and young people and then we are also going to have a couple of prizes and a draw for a door prize.”

It all happens between 5:00pm and 7:00pm at the Native Friendship Centre on Kirby Ave.

Beaven explains that the Indigenous Organizations Committee is made up of several organizations and agencies in Timmins. She says it was originally started just to organize National Indigenous Peoples Day in June.

“But since then, we’ve begun to expand somewhat and are beginning to organize other events in the community.”
