School board dealing with staff shortage

Like so many other school boards, the largest one serving our region is short-staffed, as the new school year begins next Tuesday.

District School Board Ontario North East – the English public board — says it has 95-100 positions to fill, from a total of about 1,000 full- and part time jobs.

As with the rest of the province, DSB-1 has a shortage of qualified teachers, especially those who can teach in French.  It also needs more educational assistants, information services people, occasional staff, and people to fill a variety of non-union positions.

In a statement to My Timmins Now Dot Com, the board says it’s maximizing efficient use of existing staff, and exploring partnerships with organizations and agencies that might be able to help.

The new school year begins next Tues., Aug. 30.
