Property use dispute in Porcupine leads to charges against 84-year-old man

A long-simmering dispute with City Hall boiled over on Monday, resulting in firearms charges against an 84-year-old Porcupine man.

Timmins Police say two city bylaw officials went to an undeveloped municipal lot on Frank St. – off Haileybury Cres. — over what they say is inappropriate use of the property.  Investigators say the man fired a gun during the exchange.

The city officials fled the scene and called police, who barricaded the immediate area for about an hour.

The accused is free on an undertaking to go to court next month, to answer to four firearms charges.
