Billets needed for Rock hockey players

In a matter of weeks – mid to late August – the Timmins Rock will hit the ice for another junior A hockey season… and it’s looking for homes for players coming from out of town.

Billet coordinator Brenda Torresan says she’ll be contacting past billet families in the coming week, as well as recruiting via social media.

“We like the players two together if at all possible,” she points out, “as it helps with transportation for the players to and from the home to the rink and it also helps to make the shift for the new players easier in the junior level.”

Some of the teenaged players will be away from home for the first time.

Torresan calls billeting the most important thing for the team, next to the hockey.

“Billet families are provided $450 per month for expenses,” she notes. That’s per player, along with a season ticket per billeted player.

Torresan says the real reward is the lasting relationship your family makes with the player.

If you’re interested in billeting, go to the Rock Facebook page or website.
