Farmers market ready to go at new location

Arrangements are falling into place for the first market day of the summer for the Mountjoy Farmers Market – next Saturday, July 2nd, from 9:00am until noon..

President Rock Whissell is predicting a great season at the market’s new, permanent location, just across Riverside Drive from the old one.

“Farmers are still our number one vendors,” he notes. “Anybody that has even tomatoes or tomato plants. If you want to come out even for one weekend just to sell that that one week, we’re open for weekenders.”

Its membership in the farmers market association dictates that 51 percent of vendors have to be farmers, but there’s a lot of space at the new location for crafters, too. Vendor spots go for $25.00 dollars a weekend, or $300.00 for all 15.

Because space is not an issue, Whissell says different activities are planned for every Saturday until Thanksgiving.

“We will be bringing back some of the small animals, and we’ll be having a few locations for non-profit groups also, to be able to promote themselves.”

Last year, the market averaged between 500 and 600 patrons every week.
