Closures, detours, new lights and stop signs Monday, construction next week

It feels like we’ve been waiting a long time for this year’s segment of connecting link reconstruction on Algonquin Blvd., between Thériault Blvd. and Mountjoy St. Municipal CAO Dave Landers had an announcement about that today: “The project should be moving forward over the next week and we should expect road closures on Algonquin on Monday.”

That includes temporary traffic lights and stop signs on the detour routes.

Admitting that it’s getting underway later than last year’s work, Landers says we’re still looking at the same expected construction window.

“Well, the expectation is that we’ll be done in the fall, in October or November, depending on the contract schedule, how the tail end works off,” he says.

With the phases over the next two years now part of the contract, Landers says if a small portion is left over, it can be picked up next year.

“So there’s a little bit of flexibility to help the contractor deliver and take in consideration things like weather conditions – if we get an early winter or whatever – without affecting the overall project scope, cost and schedule.”

On Monday morning, we’ll have more on the detours and the added traffic measures on them.
