Platinum Jubilee grant to South Porcupine group redeveloping Melview Park

The group working towards redeveloping Melview Park in South Porcupine has received a $4,000 grant from the Canadian Heritage ministry in honour of Queen Elizabeth’s 70 years on the throne.

Porcupine Commons member Carly Stringer says it will cover part of the park’s sensory garden.

“Flowers, native plants, those type of elements could be covered by the Platinum Jubilee funding, provided that there is recognition that the funding was received in honour of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee,” she tells My Timmins Now Dot Com.

That recognition will be in the form of a plaque in both official languages.

Fundraising for the park is ongoing.  Stringer says the group is concentrating on securing large corporation contributions.
