TIMELY UPDATE, MAY 26: It’s working! Coun. Robin says the clock’s manufacturer provided some troubleshooting steps to correct it. If it drifts again, it will probably need new parts.
Ward 5 Timmins Councillor Cory Robin knows that it’s impossible to tell what time it is, from the clock in the northwest corner of Hollinger Park.
“It was brought to my attention that it was wrong,” he tells My Timmins Now Dot Com, “so I had to go see it for myself and it is wrong.”
Put up as a joint millennium project by the Richelieu and Rotary Clubs, responsibility for the clock in the tower now belongs to the city’s parks department.
“So they informed me that the clock is wrong because the internal gears might be stripped,” says Coun. Robin. “So they’re looking to see if they can either get new gears – if that’s even a thing – or if they have to go and replace the whole clock.”
“It’s good to have pride in our community and noticing things like this, so that we can bring it to the proper attention of those who can do something about it.”
