Lower speed limit back on Airport Rd. for 2022 connecting link construction

Like dandelions and buds on trees signify spring in Timmins, there are things popping up indicating that connecting link reconstruction season is soon upon us.  You’ve noticed signs and posts for signs as well as fencing and traffic cones on Algonquin Blvd..  This year, it will be rebuilt between Thériault Blvd. and Mountjoy St.

It also means – just like last year – a temporary speed reduction to 50 kmh on Airport Road… where heavy truck traffic will be detoured. City engineer Pat Séguin says it will run from Laforest Rd., southward for just over a kilometre.

“And it’s really to help regarding concerns citizens had exiting their driveways,” he says, adding that it doesn’t represent a major inconvenience. “It actually increases the travel time by about 26 seconds, so in the eyes of safety, we felt it was worth bringing this again to council for their approval.”

Séguin says the 70 kmh speed limit will return at the end of construction season.
