New operators of Yo! Mobile working on expanding to year-round service

Before you think the Yo! Mobile is gone from the City Hall parking lot until fall, there’s this: The new organization operating the bus on Fridays and Saturdays is working on doing it year-round, not just in winter.

The Risk Takers Chapter 705 community service organization is taking it over for its 12th season. Coordinator Dan Gloster is just waiting for the I’s to be dotted and T’s to be crossed on the ownership of the bus.

“I’m not even waiting for the bus,” he states. “We’re still going to do an Easter dinner, do up some turkeys and some hams that we got donated from Kidd Creek.”

That will all be served on Saturday of Easter Weekend.

There’s a name change in the works, too. Gloster says the name will soon be “Yo! Risk Takers”.  Work is also progressing towards year-round service.

“Just doing it for this year, seeing how many people were actually coming and stuff, it just didn’t sit right with me, knowing that they’re not going to be eating anymore throughout the summer,” he remarks. “People are still hungry in the summertime, too.”

An average of 250 people a weekend visited the Yo! Mobile this past winter, picking up a sandwich, a snack, a bottle of water and any other helpful items that were donated.
