“Back to normal” hasn’t been easy for senior boys’ high school basketball.
And it’s taking on a new format for the finals. On Thursday, Roland Michener Secondary School in South Porcupine hosts Iroquois Falls Secondary and TH&VS in a round-robin tournament to decide the winner among the fourth, fifth and sixth place teams.
North east Ontario Athletic Association (NEOAA) president Doug Basso says on Friday, Ecole Secondaire Catholique Thériault in Timmins hosts Kap District High and O’Gorman High for the championship round-robin.
“It was a struggle to get the season in,” he remarks. “We’ve had weather cancellations, we had kids with COVID or outbreaks at the school that they couldn’t travel. So we had a lot of interesting reshuffling of schedules.”
“Our officials have been awesome in getting last-minute cancellations and changes and being able to meet the needs of our league. So it’s much appreciated for that, too.”
This season was the first in two years, because of the pandemic.
