It doesn’t look like it outside your window, but the branch head at the C.M. Shields Library in South Porcupine says it’s time to start thinking about gardening, and the seed library.
Louise Gaudette says it’s beginning the year with more than 3,000 envelopes of donated seeds that are free for the taking.
“The whole point of the seed library is to share and to eventually have biodiverse seeds that grow better in our area,” she explains.
The library’s offering three Zoom gardening sessions over the next several weeks. Registration is required.
- Tuesday, April 5th at 6:00 p.m.
- Spring into pruning with Cochrane District Master Gardeners
- Thursday, April 28th at 2:30p.m.
- Introduction to Food Forests with Black River Foraging Co.

- Invasive vs Native Plants with Cochrane District Master Gardeners
Meanwhile, now that the seed library at the public library in South Porcupine is five years old… Gaudette says it’s time to brand it. She’s looking for a logo, so is holding a contest. She wants the community involved, not just South Porcupine and Porcupine.
“It all of Timmins as well,” the brand head states. “And we have a lot of great artists in our community, so I was really hoping to showcase the branding with a logo from the community.”
The logo contest is open until April 30th.
