Consumption site website deals with concerns, misconceptions with facts

The organizations working towards opening a supervised drug consumption site in Timmins now have a website.

District Hospital addictions program manager Patrick Nowak says it’s primarily intended to use facts to address myths and misconceptions about the consumption site, and address common concerns.

“We hear things like a site like this would provide illegal substances to somebody, which isn’t true,” Nowak poins out, “the purpose of the site is purely so people can use substances, which isn’t necessarily true either.”

Drug  users will bring their own substances, and be medically supervised by a nurse as they consume them.

Nowak continues: “It’ll also at least let people who would use that site know that help is available and a lot of the time, they may not be aware of all of the services that are available locally, so they might become aware of something that might meet their needs and promote that entry into recovery.”

www.shst.ca is a full service website, available to anyone and everyone. Nowak says it also has Instagram and Facebook pages, with Twitter to come.
