Purple Day on March 26th promotes epilepsy awareness worldwide

We’re all being asked to wear purple next Saturday, March 26th,  to support the cause of epilepsy around the world. “Purple Day” is part of Epilepsy Awareness Month.

At the official opening of the Seizure and Brain Injury Centre’s new location on Third Ave. today, executive director Anne Marie Sorsa said one in 100  Canadians will be diagnosed with epilepsy, and one in ten will experience seizure during their lives.

“What we want to do is encourage people to learn the signs and symptoms of a seizure — seizure first aid — how can we best help someone?” she told My Timmins Now Dot Com.

It’s an invisible condition that has a lot of myths attached to it. Sorsa says her organization will be promoting facts on social media.

“It’s not so far away from any individual. We probably all know somebody who lives with epilepsy or who’s had a seizure.”
