It took a while, but a spill in front of a Schumacher home is finally gone

Four days of frustration for Father Costello Drive resident Elizabeth Smerek  finally came to an end on Monday morning.

On Thursday, a sidewalk snow plow broke down in front of her walkway, leaving some kind of substance on the ground.

“I think it’s transmission fluid because it looks red,” she said.

Smerek contacted Service Timmins several times on Friday and her city councillor, Joe Campbell, late that day. Nothing was done.

She was particularly worried about the puppy she got last week.

“I don’t want him to ingest it,” she said. “I don’t want small kids who will play in anything… Do you know what I mean? It’s worrisome if a kid splashes in that or runs into it.”

She also had environmental concerns.

“And it’s going to dissipate into our environment. There are environmental protections in place for a reason. The city should be better than that, in my opinion.”

Shortly after My TimminsNow Dot Com emailed Councillor Joe Campbell and public works director Ken Krcel, Smerek happily reported that the spill was being cleaned up.
