Snow removal and pothole seasons are overlapping, leading to a plea to be patient

This winter has been so long and severe, Timmins Public Works director Ken Krcel is urging patience over the amount of snow still on city streets.

“We’re going to be in a transitional period where we’re going to have potholes and lots of snow at the same time,” he says.

The seasons are overlapping.  While snow removal is continuing, the new “Python Pothole Patcher” is already at work.

“Luckily for us, that unit plus a safety truck behind it only requires two people to fill potholes,” Krcel notes, “versus a crew of four or five if we do it the old-fashioned way.”

Krcel says the other two or three workers are helping with snow removal.

“There is still a lot of snow in the streets and we’ve got our crews working day and night and as many weekends as they’re available to pull as much snow off the road as we can.”

Contractors are also helping with that effort.
