Potential solution to high gas prices is more Canadian product: Chamber pres.

On the day that the price of gas in Timmins shot up to just below $1.90 a litre, Timmins Chamber of Commerce President Rob Knox says we need more Canadian product.

He says this country doesn’t focus enough on oil and gas production, shipping the raw product to Canadian refineries through pipelines.

“Unfortunately, Canada is reliant on oil and gas from places that are now in the news for being despotic regimes,” Knox states. “We talk about $300-million a year of imports from Russia for oil and gas. I think if we address those issues, then perhaps this price fluctuation could be abated here in Canada.”

Knox says the NDP bill to regulate the price of gas in Ontario has merit at the surface, but would be difficult to implement. He notes that it’s a very complicated matter.
