Pirie won’t run for mayor this fall

George Pirie will not be the mayor of Timmins for the next term.

He alluded to that fact when he addressed the Chamber of Commerce this week.

“It gives me great pleasure to be her today to share with you my final State of the City address as mayor”, he told the business audience.

Pirie confirms it to My Timmins Now Dot Com. He’s running in the June election to be MPP for Timmins.  He says his favourite job is advocating for the city, so even if he loses that race, he won’t run again to be mayor.

He says as MPP, he would advocate within the Conservative party for Timmins and the region, to help things get better.

“So if I get beat,” he explains, “obviously the citizens will have decided that somebody is better than I am and consequently, that mitigates my role as the mayor.”

Pirie says being MPP is the next logical step, and admits there’s a lot of work to be done to get there.
