TPS supports right to free expression and assembly for convoy planned for Saturday

“Bringing Ottawa vibes to Timmins” is how organizers of a send-off to a convoy is being billed on social media.

It starts at 1:30pm Saturday near the overpass, offering free food and hot beverages, with the convoy set to hit the road at 3:30pm.

Timmins Police say they support the right to free expression and assembly.  Communications coordinator Marc Depatie says laws must be obeyed and public safety protected.

“We absolutely will not interfere in any way,” he says, “unless of course a law is broken or there is some perceived threat to public safety.”

“We’re eager to allow this to occur,” Depatie adds, “so long as it is a peaceful demonstration and not publicly disruptive in any way.”

He notes that pick-up truck convoys that have been driving through Timmins lately have caused no traffic concerns, comply with the Highway Traffic Act and haven’t impeded traffic.
