Chamber welcomes province’s fast track to lifting COVID-19 restrictions

The senior policy advisor at the Timmins Chamber of Commerce says today’s announced easing of COVID-19 restrictions is a confidence booster.

Cameron Grant notes that the retail and hospitality sectors have been hardest hit during the pandemic, and getting little notice of new restrictions.

“This is the light at the end of the tunnel,” Grant states. “The data is clear from the chief medical officer of health that things are trending in the right direction and so obviously the chamber network is extremely pleased to see this news come out.”

Mandatory mask-wearing remains, but Grant says as long as we support local businesses and vote with our dollars in Timmins, it’s no big deal.

“Masking is certainly something that we know that will continue to mitigate the spread and keep our businesses open and viable and so you know what? – If that’s what needs to continue for now, then that’s what we should do.”

Restrictions on capacity at places like restaurants, gyms and theatres are among the measures being lifted this Thursday.
