Help local animals in need

A fundraiser for the Timmins and District Humane Society is coming up. The 14th annual Wag-A-Tail-A-Thon is happening in early August, to bring in some money for the animal shelter. You can sign up to register as a fundraiser this week, on Wednesday at Gillies Lake and Friday at Urban Park. Look for Steve Bain and the Moose tent for all of the information.

Alicia Santamaria, Manager of the shelter, says they depend on these fundraisers.

“Super, super important. Last year we ended up raising about $11, 000 through our walk,” explains Santamaria. “So this year we’re hoping to raise a little bit more than that. Regardless of what we make, we’re just super grateful.”

You can expect a BBQ, face painting, and of course animals at the walk, which is on August 8th.

“We bring some of the dogs that we have available for adoption at the time,” says Santamaria. “So you’ll be able to see if you come out to the event on August 8th, you’ll be able to see a good handful of the dogs that we’ve got available at the shelter.”

The Humane Society will be debuting five Great Dane puppies at the Urban Park on Friday, but there’s also something of interest for the cat lovers in town.

“We’re going to have a cuddle tent for the kitties, so anyone interested in coming and checking out the kitties and giving them cuddles, they’ll be there.”

Santa Maria says they also have a No Hot Dog campaign running. It’s all about keeping pets out of hot cars during the summer months. She says if you see an animal in distress, call them right away.

Head over to check out the puppies, kittens, and sign up to be a fundraiser for the Wag-A-Tail-A-Thon at the Urban Park on Friday.
