Joseph and Marella Schofield, both 67 and from Cutler, were driving on Friday night when they hit a moose, and then another car head on. Joseph was pronounced dead at the scene, while Marella and the other driver, 27 year old Srinivasu Murukonda from Mississauga, were treated for non life threatening injuries. It happened on Highway 17, East of Sleepy Hollow Road. Police are still investigating, and have sent out some safety tips for Northern driving: – Be sure to follow the speed limit and reduce your speed in darkness, rain, and fog. – Continually scan shoulders of the highway so animals may be spotted. – Watch for the yellow wildlife warning signs that indicate areas of increased risk and slow down. – Stop as safely as possible if a wild animal is crossing the road and remember that other animals may follow.
