Cochrane Polar Bear Riders have first open snowmobile trail of the season in Ontario

The Cochrane Polar Bear Riders Snowmobile Club is bragging that it has the first open trail of the season in Ontario.

On the phone from somewhere out in the bush, president Kenny Johnson says it’s part of Top A.

“We have it open for about 20 km right now, plus another 10 km of the A103, which takes you up to Silver Queen (Lake) right now,” he reports.

“This is the most snow that we’ve seen in a few years this early,” Johnson continues. “Conditions are great. The motels are currently – from what I hear – sold out for Christmas break and pretty soon, the town’ll be full of sleds.”

More of the trails will be open soon.  Meanwhile, Johnson says the club will be grooming and getting signed agreements with landowners to allow trails to cut across their properties.
