Campbell hits another roadblock while trying to improve budget transparency

Timmins Councillor Joe Campbell has been thwarted again, in his attempt to bring what he sees as more transparency to the city budget process.

At Tuesday night’s meeting, he presented a long list of measures to do that.  But Mayor George Pirie declared his motion dead on the floor, when it failed to attract a seconder.

Campbell: “Can I make a comment on a point of order?

Pirie: “No. This is a motion that didn’t get a seconder, so there’s no discussion.”

Campbell: “That’s nonsense.”

Campbell can be heard referring to social media reaction, as Mayor George Pirie rules against discussion.

“This motion has died on the floor,” the mayor reiterated. “Move on, please.”

Campbell’s next attempt will be a presentation to council.  That format requires no mover or seconder in order for discussion to happen.
