Farmers market season is over — already

It’s Week 15 for the Mountjoy Farmers Market on Saturday and being Thanksgiving weekend, it’s the final one of the 2021 season.

Like the first 14, Porcupine District Agricultural Society president Rock Whissell says this Saturday between 9:00am and noon should be busy.

“We have the photographer coming back for children’s pictures and I haven’t confirmed, but it looks like we’ll most likely have some live music and I’ve got the same 20 vendors that have coming out pretty much every weekend throughout the summer, being there for the last weekend.”

Four or five of those vendors will be offering frozen turkeys.  Whissell says there will also be a wide variety of apples.

He’s already looking forward to next season, under the shelter of the long-awaited pavilion.

“We’re just confirming a few grants,” he remarks. “and working with a few other organizations to make this happen. But we’ll most likely be seeing the building coming up there, early spring.”

That will be in time for the traditional Canada Day opening of the market season.
