BREAKING NEWS: Timmins Mayor George Pirie to run for Ont. PCs in June, 2022

The Ontario Progressive Conservative Party has named Timmins mayor George Pirie its candidate for the Timmins riding in next June’s provincial election.

The nomination was confirmed during a riding association attended by Premier Doug Ford and several members of his cabinet Monday night.

At a news conference at the Timmins and District Hospital earlier in the day, Ford called Pirie “one of the greatest mayors in the province”.

Sixty-eight-year-old Pirie’s family has been in the Porcupine for more than a century.

Prior to becoming mayor in 2018, he spent over 35 years as a mining executive.  That includes being president and CEO of three mining companies.

The provincial election will be held Thurs., June 2nd, 2022.
