Story walk outlines who Terry Fox was

You can kill two birds with one stone this Sunday, by taking your family for a walk around Gillies Lake as part of the annual Terry Fox Run.

The Timmins Public Library will have a couple dozen plaques around the lake, making it a story walk. Early childhood education advisor Melissa Vieno says it’s adapted bilingually from the book “Meet Terry Fox/Voici Terry Fox”.

“This gives the parents an opportunity to talk about Terry Fox and the story of Terry Fox while enjoying the walk,” she tells My Timmins Now Dot Com, “ and it’s also a fun activity that parents can do walking safely. It’s a socially distant, outdoor activity, so they can enjoy it together.”

The story walk will be posted from 11:00am until 5:00pm.

Vieno says the library tries to have one story walk a month.  It’s having three this month.

“We have one more coming up on the Saturday the 25th. We will have a story walk over at the Mountjoy Farmers Market.”

That one will feature two stories with an agriculture theme: “Keep the Cat” and “Old MacDonald Had A Farm”.
