Doors Open your chance to explore Timmins history with your own eyes

Today in our examination of Timmins history: how to discover a lot of it firsthand.

Coming up on Saturday and Sunday, September 25th and 26th, this year’s version of Doors Open Timmins will be part in-person, part virtual. Museum director-curator Karen Bachmann says some participating sites will be open.

“Certainly the Timmins Museum will be open for business that day and you’ll be able to come in for the museum and you’ll also be able to go through the Hollinger House,” she says. “So there’ll be a number of those tours available.”

You can visit the permanent Timmins gallery that opened days before the first COVID-19 lockdown.  Bachmann says there will also be virtual tours, including one depicting working underground in 1912.

“If you want to try your hand at being a real hard rock miner from 1912 down in the bowels of the Hollinger, this is the time to come and do out.”

Next week: More about Doors Open and some of the local sites you can explore. The full list is on the museum’s website.
