MOH puts numbers to the risk of not being vaccinated against COVID-19

Today (Wed.) is the last day to get your COVID-19 vaccination, in order to qualify for the vaccine passport that comes into effect on September 22nd. That’s because you only qualify 14 days after that shot.

Porcupine Health Unit medical officer of health Dr. Lianne Catton says for the first little while, a vaccination receipt will stand in for the passport.

“We do have a link on our website as to where folk can go to find that information to have your vaccine receipt that will be required.”

Eventually, the province will issue a passport app with a QR code indicating your vaccination status.  But that’s not expected until sometime in October.

Catton says vaccination is “an absolutely critical tool in minimizing the fourth wave”.

“Those that are not vaccinated have a six-fold higher risk of being symptomatic (with COVID-19); a 30-fold higher risk of being admitted to the hospital; and a 48-fold higher risk of being admitted to the ICU.”
