Pop-up COVID-19 vaccination clinic planned for Welcome to Timmins Night

The COVID-19 vaccination rate in Porcupine Health Unit territory could get a boost Wednesdat night, at Welcome to Timmins Night. PHU will have a pop-up clinic on Third Ave. during the event.

Chief nursing officer Chantal Riopel says we’re doing well across the region, with 78.8% of eligible residents getting their first dose. That meets the provincial threshold to move beyond Step 3 of the reopening road map.  Sixty-eight-point-eight percent are fully vaccinated.

“We do want to immunize more than 70% fully vaccinated. Our target is 85%,” says Riopel. “But at least we’re meeting that first threshold.”

Riopel says the no-appointment-needed clinic gives you easy access to a vaccination, especially if you’re new to town.

“Coming to the community, they may not know of all our Facebook pages and our website and may not have heard on the radio about our upcoming clinics,” she notes. “So the Welcome to Timmins Night will give them an opportunity to get the vaccine if that’s what they want and if they haven’t received it in their community.”

Welcome to Timmins Night is from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. The vaccination clinic opens at 5:30.
