City workers to be trained in Indigenous awareness

All employees of the City of Timmins will soon be trained in Indigenous awareness. Council has approved spending $35,000 for an online course that will be included with other training modules.

City clerk Steph Palmateer says the Timmins Police Service has been doing it for several years.

This will bring the city into compliance with the Calls to Action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada. Mayor George Pirie calls it “a very necessary step”.
