Players on the Junior-A Timmins Rock hockey team are back in town on August 21st, and the team needs billets for three or four of them.
Billet coordinator Therese Gelinas says you can help a young man pursuing his hockey dream by providing his own bedroom and nutritious meals. The team pays room and board.
“I’ve been billeting for three years,” Gelinas remarks. “I still speak to my old billets. They’re like my other children. It’s an awesome experience to have.”
Gelinas says the player becomes part of your family, and you’re like a second set of parents who are encouraged to assign chores to that family member.
Not that young men focussed on their hockey dreams are hard to handle, but Gelinas says new coach Brandon Perry enforces team rules, like a curfew.
“Whether you’re 16 or 20, your curfew is ten o’clock this year. We absolutely do not want any players drinking or doing illegal drugs.”
