The swimming pool at the Archie Dillon Sportsplex is expected to open again at noon Wednesday.

The city’s manager of parks, recreation and building operations, Glenn Thurston, says the entire building was shut down on Tuesday by an ammonia leak on the arena side.

“We were doing the start-up on the arena ice plant and we discovered a small leak,” he tells My Timmins Now Dot Com. “So in the order of safety, we immediately evacuated the building and began emergency procedures for repair of the leak.”

Exposure to ammonia can cause irritation, blindness, and potentially death.
