Algonquin work progressing well, more traffic using detour route

Traffic is thickening a bit on the detour around the Algonquin Blvd. reconstruction project.

City of Timmins public works manager Ken Krcel says that’s to be expected, as the city opens up from the COVID-19 lockdown.

“We’ve noticed a little bit of traffic getting a little heavier in the last few weeks, maybe with the better weather and more people out,” he remarks. “I think if everybody is just patient and takes their time, I think the detour’s been working rather well to this point.”

Krcel says the project is progressing well.  Workers are starting to expose the Town Creek culvert, and new curbs will be installed between Mattagami Blvd. and Fogg St. next week.

“We’re sticking to our October 1st end date,” Krcel adds. “You know,  if we get further enough ahead and we can confirm that we’ll be ahead of schedule, then we’ll announce that.”

Krcel doesn’t want to tempt fate, not knowing what complications the workers might run into.
