As soon as My Timmins Now Dot Com told Timmins Food Bank president Rick Young about the South Porcupine fire, he offered a helping hand.
“We’ll serve the people from South Porcupine, anybody using the South Porcupine Food Bank, we’ll let them use the Timmins Food Bank ‘til they get straightened out,” he says, adding that his food bank has enough stock to help out.
South Porcupine Food Bank treasurer Peter Davis says he’s looking into what its insurance policy can do.
“And I imagine there might be some restoration required to remove smoke damager, etc.,” he muses. “We’ll definitely keep the public informed through our Facebook page as well as the media outlets to inform the public of what’s needed and what our plans are for reopening.”
We at Moose 93.1 and My Timmins Now Dot Com are ready to help, too. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday next week between ten and noon, promotions director Matt Fisher will be outside our station. That’s where you can drop off non-perishable food to help the South Porcupine Food Bank get back up on its feet. We’re at 49 Cedar St. S., in the old Holy Cow building.
