A fire in its building is forcing the South Porcupine Food Bank to throw out all its stock Power is off in the building and all the food is contaminated with smoke.
Deputy Fire Chief Ellard Beaven says the call came in shortly after 2:00am. When firefighters arrived, there were people still inside the apartments.
“One person came out the window on their own,” the deputy chief tells My Timmins Now Dot Com. “The crews helped three other people out of the apartments above. The apartment of origin was on the main floor. That’s where the fire started.”
All four people were treated at hospital for smoke inhalation and released.
No cause has been pinpointed yet, says Beaven. “It was more contained to a main floor apartment and then it ended up burning the widow and coming up the outside of the structure and up to the second floor to another apartment.”
Only those two apartments suffered fire damage. The entire building sustained smoke damage.
