A very relieved Mayor George Pirie welcomes the move into Stage 1 of COVID-19 recovery tonight.
He’s especially happy for the hospitality industry to be able to open some more, and for high school grads to now have drive-thorough ceremonies.
Pirie says vaccination rates are a big factor in the reopening, with 72.4% of adults having one dose, and 41.6% having two.
“Those are great numbers,” he assesses. “We’ll be starting a campaign that will be sponsored by the City of Timmins, promoting everybody to get their vaccinations, their second doses.”
The mayor also notes that safety precautions will be with us for a while.
“We don’t want this to happen again,” Mayor Pirie states. “We can’t afford it. It’s just great news and let’s kep the momentum going and make sure that this doesn’t happen to us again and in fact have everyone involved with that proactive process.”
Pirie foresees the start of everyone’s school or workday involving rapid testing for coronavirus.
