Chamber asks PHU what members can do to reopen businesses sooner

The Timmins Chamber of Commerce is asking for some guidance from the Porcupine Health Unit.

President Mélanie Verreault has written to medical officer of health Dr. Lianne Catton asking what her members – local businesses – can do to move into phase 1 of recovery sooner.

“What we’re looking for is at least ‘Okay, if we can meet this, what we do?’ Kind of like how the province has been rolling out throughout this pandemic and that we’ll be able then to rejoin them – the rest of the province – sooner than later,” Verreault tells My Timmins Now Dot Com.

Most of the province begins to reopen on Friday.  But ongoing high COVID-19 case counts have led Catton to not allow it here.

Verreault notes that many of her members are worried that people will head to Sudbury, New Liskeard and North Bay to shop.

“We certainly do want to discourage inter- and outer-regional travel and try to keep people local here, continue to buy local and just stay with it a little bit longer.”
