Timmins Police plan to ticket anyone partying on Victoria Day weekend

Call it May Run; May 2-4; or the old traditional Victoria Day.  But celebrating the upcoming weekend the traditional way of large gatherings is not allowed again this year, because of the pandemic.

Timmins Police say they’ll have their eyes and ears open to any parties, in the bush or elsewhere. Communications coordinator Marc Depatie says officers will be enforcing the Emergency Measures Act.

“Each individual is responsible for their own behaviour. So there is no ‘get out of jail free card’ here,” Depatie explains. “And the $880 fine is at that level for good reason.”

“Anything that we locate in terms of an Emergency Measures violation, either on patrol or something that is brought to our attention, we will be reacting to that situation with a ticket book in hand.”
